I think the most important soft skills in the workplace are understanding your collegues and being able to work well with others.
Soft skill can begin from classroom envirement to a students he/she may need advise, knowing the student level regardless is another critical step in relation to soft skills!!
Anissa,
I agree this is a hard question. Recognizing that is important. That way we can help people to be the best they can be.

Christina,
Positive attitudes are contagious, the bad thing is that negative ones are also. Stay focused on the positive ones.
Philip Campbell
bridgette,
Yes, both very important. Don't be afraid to ask the students what they want out of you. That will them and you.
Philip Campbell
This is a very hard question to answer because thay are all important in there own way. If I had to rank them based on my experience, I would say being dependable. I am a result oriented person. I need to trust that when a task is asked to be done that it is done effectively and efficiently within the time frame that it was issued.
I think the most important soft skill is positive attitude. Positive attitudes serve as a model for other's behaviors. i have found that if students only see me behaving in a positive manner, they start to believe that is how they are to act in my class!
Being a good listener and maintaining a positive attitude!
I believe Integrity is the most important soft skill for success in the workplace. Honesty and trust must be a value of the employee in every decision that the employee makes. Also, being professional, courteous and positive at work provides a high standard and quality of work for the customers, both internal and external.
Robert,
Good point and thanks for sharing. Finding dependable people are important parts of any organization.

Honesty, ethics, and being true to what one says they stand for and will do. Without that there is no trust. And without trust there can be no real cooperation in the classroom, or anywhere else. Unfortunately I doubt that this can be taught, or is often particularly valued.
Dependability! I think you need to be willing to do as much as you can, more than you need, to make the work place better for your students.
I think the most important soft skills for success in any workplace would have to be dependability. How can you hire someone that you can't always depend on when it really counts?
controling and understanding your own emotionals and the emotions of others has helped me more than anything
getting along with people and being a team player
I have found from my teaching experience over the years that when you encourage and actively listen to a student they will desire to achieve the best from themselves. They will be more driven to set goals and in turn be more successful. They will take an active role in their education.
keeping a positive attitude and trying to understand the students and their behavior are important soft skills for me.
Customer Relations are very important. In teaching, our students are our customers and the better instructors understand our students, we are put onto common ground with the students and thus are better equipped to teach the subject matter. We have to realize that treating the students as our customers puts the instructor on an even ground with the students an thus we gain better acceptance and able to accomplish our goals as instructor more easily.
I agree, so many times students have multiple issues going on in their lives that will derail their success.
I attempt to visit the class room on a daily sis and when passing students in the hall let them know I am available. After students take test it is a wonderful time to mingle to find out what is going on. Being accessable, friendly, and really listening is a very important key.
Your "right on" Jean about the short term negative attitude being a pervasive influence in the class setting. As an instructor I prefer to be up-beat, happy and positive in my approach to teaching and interacting with my students. We spend alot of hours with each other on a weekly basis. I do have one student that, no matter what I have done to reach her, she is bound to show "negative attitude" and displays a lack of class participation each time we are in class with me as well as with her fellow students. Does anyone have any idea how I might reach/connect with this student to help improve overall classroom influence? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
