Students have to literate at both literacy and languag. This will help them to be successful in the learning environment, but they also have to understand that literacy in the English language is needed in some fields of expertise that they are working in.
Encouraging "Mother Tongue" the learner masters the learning objective while improving comprhension of English and expanding of their first language. The student at this point can be given the chance to learn from other cultures when I assign a group task.
Language ("Mother Tongue") is a part of ones race
Students should develop both literacy and language skills. Some students learning English may have highly-developed literary skills that do not immediately show up.
Each student has his own dialect. I have a southern drawl myself. If our cultures clash we must work toward understanding
