Other activities to consider

Good idea. Could give the definitions to scrambled words at the beginning of the semester, as the course progresses have them unscramble the letters and give the definition.
This is not a game format, but I have great results asking students to look in the news for current articles relating to the topic we have covered in class. It forces them to understand some aspect of the material and often gives us interesting topics to discuss that are not in their books. I always learn something from a new article or research that the students bring up.
The activity most familiar to analytical learners would be a crossword puzzle; it requires less educational risk than the others do and there would be less resistance to trying it. Once that is a positive experience for them, they will be more comfortable with other activities you propose.
Margaret, since it is a new year, a new idea is good to incorporate in class.

I have also used a form of the Jeopardy game and Hang Man. I find these activities reinforce their learning’s through repetition.
Since my classes are typically 5 hours in length; I have found utilizing different activities to reinforce content definitely engages the students and keeps them on their toes.
