Individual activities
I am anxious to use the blend of activities - those that appeal to the extravert and those to the introvert. I appreciate the emphasis on introducing the activity by stating its purpose.
As I explain to my students. Dont memorize, KNOW!
RONDA, you have a good view of how learning occurs, and I would be happy to be a student in your classes.

Giving students the opportunity to utilize these fun activities can help them to discover other ways to retain information that they may have never even tried before. Some students think that they have to read material over and over that they may find boring in order to "memorize" it. These activities provide a different connection to material which may open up a whole new realm to the students as far as their study habits.
I agree with you. An activity without direction is simply a hobby or past-time activity. It goes without saying that an activity has to be a filler, an spontaneous part of the teaching. But it is an art to synchronize it towards the teaching goal and content, time, and the audience.
Wendy, telling the purpose up front helps the thinkers to buy in and see relevance.
