Methods of teaching

It is very important for instructors to utilize different types of learning methods for students.

Jeanie, I agree that variety of methods keeps the students engaged.

Michelle, I'm glad you are enthusiastic about trying some new methods.

I agree that it is very important for teachers to use many different teaching methods to keep the students involved and insterested.

I have a similiar issue in the sense that my class ranges in age from 19-55 and always a challenge to instruct based on different learning abilities. Some students have been out of school a long time and hard to find a way to get back into the groove. All of the methods used I can't wait to use.

i use videos to help make a point. I only use short videos

Allen, I agree we have to be aware that variety is the key to learning.

I dont see how it would be possible to teach by one method especially considering the varied background of our students. A knowledge and situation knowledge is more adventageous to the classroom. I also realize that students learn at different paces, so one method my work well for one group of students and be bad for another' To be a very good instructor we have to be able to recognize what method is best for that particular day and or subject taught

I will stress also the auditory method.

Yes, it is very dry, but you can make it engaging as you have shared.

I work at a medical school that is in a lower socio-economic setting and some of my students are homeless. The age range is 18 to 70. I use a variety of teaching methods to engage all. Elders like story telling, the 18-20 group likes fast moving games and annimation, and my "slower" learners like the idea of picture boards in order to draw and make connections. Also, I must be annimated at all time in order to instill passion into my students. Medical terminology is VERY dry!!!

Thank you,

I have found short videos the students enjoy. I tunes has many resources that can add real world, animated and well produced videos that drive home the point. A great resource.

I agree, and for the instructors to understand which student learns which way.

I adapted an activity someone spoke about in the reply forum and presented to my medical term class, they enjoyed it very much and learned a lot.Thank you.

Yes I greatly agree and because some classes can be so diverse if just lecture all the time I'm pretty sure you are losing some students. Games and activities can change the atmosphere in the classroom on the positive side.
