More Videos as Course Content
I would prefer to include a 5-10 minute You Tube video 2-3 times during a one hour live chat. It breaks up the live chat, which keeps each student's attention.
james,
Videos are a part of our world, we should accept and include in our courses!

Videos are one part of the whole. There's also the in-class portion along with any on line tests or quizzes. Each part should relate to and work within the whole.
Also, after viewing a video, if the student has any questions concerning the video he/she should be able to message or e-mail the instructor during posted hours.
Emory,
Most students will not watch a video longer than 5-7 minutes. You might want to try a few more shorter videos and see what happens.
Shelly Crider
I usually have 2 or 3 videos with the duration of about 10-20 minutes each. I break them up with assignments that will have them do a search on their own. Do you think that I should cut the duration of the videos? I have received on feedbacks that some students thought the videos were a bit long.
Kevin,
I like this too! The more resources we provide the more knowledge will be soaked up.

I believe that the use of video tutorials that cover the information should also be used along with the chats. The adobe chats get very laggy when presenting software and the students get lost or even miss something that might be important. With the video tutorials covering the same information can then be posted to the announcements for the student to review.
Jaime,
You are right about the attention span...but as an instructor, do we teach "to" that attention span or try to stretch their attention span?
Shelly Crider
Course Content should have 5-10 minute videos serveral times in a classroom lecture, online lecture, and one hour live chat. It keep students attention. The younger generation has much lower attention span. I have a short attention span this will help me if I was in a one hour chat forum.
Kevin,
Each situation is a bit different. It is also good to have students research a topic instead of having videos at hand to view. This gives them experience on researching creditable sites.
Shelly Crider
Video is great for certain kinds of content in that it provides audio and images and can be paused and rewound at any time. On the other hand a student cant ask a video a question.
As with most things whether to use video or something more synchronous depends on the situation.
