USING TECHNOLOGY FOR TECHNICAL TOPICS
Hello - if you teach a more technical than esoterical subject, (math or accounting, or a medical topic -v- English or Humanities), what tips do you have to promote use of technology in the courseroom?

Great use of technology, if it works for you and the students USE IT!

Susan as stated in another thread one of the areas that I teach is computer programming and have found that using a synchronous chat tool (like Adobe acrobat) to “show & tell development tool and language syntax†works great, especially for introductory programming courses engaging students with positive outcome results confirmed by lab programming outcomes.
Susan,
I have found that using a tablet with writing tools make s it easier to teach. I can actually mark papers that are turn in. I can record using the tools so I can address individual problems. Does this help?
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Gretchen,
What a great use of technology to ease the fear of technology. Once a student has success in the technology; the confidence grows.

Susan,
I teach in the criminal justice field as a subject matter expert within certain fields. My students range from recent high school graduates to their 60's which provide challenges based on comfort level and acceptance of technology.
So I try to make it fun by conducting a game of cyber jeopardy or show them that technology has many benefits and features. Find a common ground, validate their fears, and show confidence when teaching.
Best of luck,
Gretchen
