Interactive Portals Enhancing Course Offerings

Some publishing companies offer interactive portals that compliment the subject matter and/or textbook selected for a course.

Are you currently using an interactive portal, in the decision process of whether to use an interactive portal, or have not considered using an interactive portal from a publishing company?

If you have used an interactive portal as an instructor, do you believe the interactive portal enhances your course and instruction?

Do you find yourself teaching the subject matter based upon the offering found in the interactive portal?

Do you believe as an instructor, you should be provided decision-trees to determine what is offered in the interactive portal?

Jennifer,
Good point! If find them hard to learn and integrate if you don't have good support from the publisher.

I have used the interactive modules from some of the publishers but I find some of them to be cumbersome and only useful as a practice area for the students. This is particularly true when a great deal of practice is necessary like math or medical coding and the students need more exercises to become proficient and comfortable rather than just understanding the concepts of the course.

Gretchen,
These are great questions. I don't as I don't use the complete interactive portal. I do know a schools that do use this and they use the complete product because it fits the outcomes of their course(s). I know they asked to pilot the product with a couple of classes then committed to it. They did a complete review including student input!
