Revising
Revisions of course work are sometimes necessary. I really appreciate the need to revise my courses continuously. Phillippi and Schorn’s (2011) research indicated that having a revision process “demonstrates effective use of a variety of teaching modalities to enhance student learning†(p. 410).

Carolyn,
Thanks for explaining the process you went through. We have to communicate with the publishers for sure.
Hi Dr. Crews:
Where I work we had a situation just like that. The company we used to write the content would not allow us to change it until we went through a process to get it done. I needed to tell our account rep. who told the writing team assigned to us, who probably would have to contact me for more explanation! That lasted about 3 years. Why would we not be able to change anything? It cost a good penny to pay someone to write the course. I feel it comes down to $$$.
Now, if a publisher writes the course, it usually is not geared to our student body. But, we do have the chance to rewrite it.
Kevin,
Why do you think that is? Why would institutions not want them to do this? Thanks!
Kevin,
Good point. It's just like continual learning, we have to keep doing it over and over again. Nice job.
In some schools, instructors cannot do this.
It is a never ending process and should not be.
Maureen,
I through in formative assessments (quick 10 question quizzes over the content) every once in awhile when I can't tell if students are "getting" the content. From the quizzes I can quickly assess. Hope this is helpful.
I am having trouble with students in Introduction to Business and evaluating whether these students are interested or not catching the studies.
I check the View Course Analytics and find the lower grade students are not spending adequate time or sending in assignments. It is spelled out, but still I wonder.
Your advise would be appreciated.
Grace,
We have to analyze and edit continuously in what we do. Technology changes, our skills improve, we get a different set of students, curriculum is updated, etc. Thanks for your input.
Revision is key in both the online and on ground environment. Academic and professional research continues to inform our courses and the assignments and syllabus should reflect this.
Thank you again for your confirming comments. I have really appreciated EL 103!
Heidi
david,
Right on. We have to change as well as our teaching strategies to keep up. Glad you are enjoying the online environment.
Heidi,
You continue to provide references that are beneficial to all who read this forum. Thanks so much.
even when I was teaching in the elementary environment, I cringed when I heard teachers saying, "I don't know what the district wants. Ive been teaching the same way for 25 years!" The students are constantly changing and the industries for whom we teach change so our approaches need to change and that includes the course content and all that comes with it. I really appreciate this being part of the instruction in creating online courses.
