Test the lesson

I am curious to know if it is common that a class may need to be refined over and over as it is rolled out to the students. I can understand that the first few times through, there might be important revisions. But at what point should the class be "set?" That is...how many times through seems about right?

Traci,

Yes, it does take a few times, but then we continue to change and edit the courses after that as well. We have to keep asking for feedback and making the course revision process a reality. Thanks.

I can tell you by experience that it took me and my fellow co-teachers at least 3 times to get the class to where it seemed right, sometimes longer.

Randy,

That is great! I bet you get great feedback from them. Thanks for sharing.

We also invite our employer and educator advisory-panel members to join courses to get their feedback on the experience.

John,

More repetition/redundancy may be necessary for a variety of students. Good job.

It does take a number of repetitions. I like to include current events in
my class to illustrate the items. Seeing them in the news seems to generate more interest.
Be awesome.
John

Kimberley,

Getting in the "students' shoes" is a good way to view your own course. Nice job.

That is a really good question. More than twice would be my guess. Each class may respond the course differently and as an instructor you always find things in the course that could have been explained differently or included. When I am presented with a course I go through the course as if I were a student in order to gain a different perspective and also to ensure that the course meets the outlined objectives.

James,

Glad it was helpful. We learn so much from each other.

Thanks, Tena, I've done some course development but always with content issues only and not with the actual format. So this is new for me. It's good to know. Thanks. Jim

James,

You use the correct term - "test drive." Thanks!

Good to know. My own experience is about the same. In some cases, maybe I try a little too hard and go too far with revisions, but I can see where a few test drives might work to help make the lessons as friendly as possible.

James,

To me, it takes about three times to teach a course before I feel it is "just right.". Although I still have minor tweaks after that but nothing major. Thanks.
