"When teaching in an online environment, content must not only be provided, but provided through the proper vehicle for delivery. You CANNOT simply copy lectures and presentations into an online template." quote from the course material EL103 - It is essential to implement a student centered learning approach and teaching style to see the success of learning/teaching exchange take place.

Audrey,
Yes, we have to adjust to various learning styles and varying teaching methods to make sure all students have an equal opportunity to learn and achieve the learning outcomes. Nice job.
I totally agree with you. We all know that students learn differently and we as educator must develop and adapt various techniques to engage the students in the learning process.

Diane,
Sounds like you provide a variety of learning choices for your students. When they can choose something that is presented in they way they learn or at least provides for some diversity, that's best. Thanks!
I find that people learn by many techniques and lectures are not always the best choice for learning. I am a firm believer of using power point slides and videos.I also feel it is helpful to have either vocab words or terminolgy words as part of a learning forum.
Julia and Kimberly,
Thsnks for continuing the conversation. The students' learning should be our main concern.
Thanks again.

Your comments are extremely relevant to this topic. The material must be tailored to meet the needs of the current topic and the students.

Steve,
I had materials sent to the school I believe when I worked with prisoners - not my home address. I was happy to help those who wanted to help themselves.
Thank you Tena - I appreciate your advice. I was also asked to consider one correspondence course for prisoners. I'm a bit hesitant about that one!
Steve,
The first thing I would check is if there is a library in the rural area or some type of career canter you could partner with. This would allow you to have a dissemination point. You could email or Fax item there for student pick up. I previously taught correspondence courses for prisoners. It was all done through mail and can be accomplished. Timing is typically the issue there. But, if you have a dissemination point such as a library, they may also be able to email or Fax you things. Hope this is helpful.

Tena - Your comment about correspondence is timely. I've been working online for about seven years now. I was just asked to develop a correspondence course for students living in rural areas that (still!) don't have consistent internet access. I'm really having a hard time imagining what such a course might look like other than printed copies of my current online content. Anyone have any suggestions on where to begin?
Denise,
I agree. I totally believe using good teaching methods works in any environment. Thanks for your input.
This also goes back to many "No significant difference" findings that compared learning vehicles. It's not so much a matter of whether the students are learning face-to-face or online. The differences are going to be seen when you look at the methods of teaching.
Kimberly ,
Right on!! Simply doing the "copy thing" creates a correspondence course, not an effective online course. Thanks!
