Frameworks?

With my school that is requiring this training the classes are designed and reused (in my opinion to long) by the school and faculty development team. The framework means nothing to me as faculty have no say so once the course is developed.

Michael and Scott,

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's good to know we are not along. Everyone should be open to input from others.

Thanks again.

I have a similar situation at my institution, Scott, and believe you mean that the course design is sometimes re-used for several years without any (or much) change. While stagnation always has some flaws, in today's environment, we must also consider the likelihood that students will post prior work online for others to use when they take this recycled course.

Hopefully, more institutions can recognize the potential pitfalls and take steps to redesign courses more frequently based on input from the faculty, both tenured and adjunct.

Joan,

UGH - need that scaffolding. Hope you can get your goals accomplished. Keep working at it.

This was my understanding also. About 10 minutes after starting this course, I went to my supervisor asking what the point was, of taking this course, if we cannot change it! I was told to come up with some ideas and they would be presented to the higher ups.
I also sent her a quick email to let her know that I now know the proper term for what I see is wrong with one of our courses. NO INSTRUCTIONAL SCAFFOLDING!!!

Scott,

Are you saying the courses you teach are too long and you have no say in the development at all? Can you edit things once the course is developed?
