I have tried to make changes to a sylabus to the classes benifit, but there is always someone who will object. Its important you go over the entire sylabus and keep it in its present formthrough ou the class to prevent and confusion.
Eleanor,
Definitely. A discussion, posting on the LMS, announcement, etc. to make sure all students understand the change, is important. Thanks for emphasizing that.
I think when there are changes, it should be discussed with the class and through discussion everyone can "be on the same page." Then its iplemented in and added to a revised syllabus. Too many revisions are not a good thing because it could affect the student's level of understanding and comfort level that he/she knows what is expected and what to expect.
Bari,
We can't always rely on external information on Web sites, but students have access to so much information on the Web. It is also to have additional information that you can provide them and not rely only on the Web. Thanks for your input.
I have experienced a problem with a publisher's website that we use for additional content for the class. The website went down with Hurricane Sandy, and was down for at least 2 weeks. Not knowing when the site would become avaiable again, I had to change the assignments for my students. The change had to be done quickly during the session of class. Fortunately, the students were very agreeable and followed the additinal instructions I had to provide, and I also added instruction and encouragement in emails and announcements.
The experiance after all was a good one for both me and my students, and the appreciate the attention I provided the class to get through the new assignment. It took efforts on both my part and the students part to make the activities a success.

Taghreed,
Right on or there may be a change in an assignment/project final product if agreed upon by the students. For example, you may initially require a PowerPoint presentation but several students want to do a video or Prezi presentation. Then, the assignment does not change but the product does. Make sense?
Thanks.
