Effective learning strategies

By including significant discussions and work applications in the particular career field this will provide better interaction with other students and instructor.

Waqar,
There are many learners who benefit from visual and audio tools that are available. However, relying on those too heavily can sometimes leave the student with some unmet opportunities. Using a/v materials along with interactive learning opportunities has proven a much stronger than just the a/v, alone. Video materials can often be used as an introduction to a lesson and/or a reinforcement of information, but it is not usually strong enough as the only instructional vehicle.

Dr. S. David Vaillancourt

Coordinators and founders of this module, I'd like to get your ideas about video learning. Most of my students are at-risk students who don't have the best reading and writing skills. I feel they need to work/practice these skills as much as possible in class. Yet we are encouraged to provide video supplements and video is a large part of many of my courses. Your thoughts?

Hi Cornelius, I agree. In career focused courses, it is very important that learners are engaging in active learning strategies that focus on real world applications in the field of study. Tina
