Online readiness for the student
How can you determine student’s online readiness for successful completion of the course content? Is this determined from the effectiveness of how the course is set-up? Meaning, when does usability becomes a factor in online learning before you deploy the course?
Herbert - in my 14 years of higher ed instruction, I don't think there is any one time that I was simply able to replicate exactly what I did the last time I taught a course. There are continual tweaks and changes an instructor makes based upon experiences from the last time a course was taught. Throw in teaching something very technology-heavy and courses will consistently be different!
Danny,
I would say that usability is always a factor and something an instructor should always be thinking about when they are designing a course. However, I see this as a developmental process, in other words, you will continue to review the effectiveness of the course once you create it and revise it each semester to make it more usable and more effective for the students.
