unreplaceable vs replaceable
I think you can make your presence just as sufficient on an online program as oppose to the the traditional class room. This is aceived by creating a Bio of yourself, and also responding frequently and giving online "pats on the Backs"
Hi Hima, you may want to consider including a discussion that allows learners to introduce themselves to one another. This can help break the ice and help learners find commonality. Tina
For the online classes I teach, the students do not have to post their introductions. The course instructors can view the student profiles which has the students e-mail address listed.
Hi Hima, I agree. Do you have students post their introductions? Tina
Replying to students online posts and communicating with them through e-mails are helpful to make your presence felt. Also instructor introduction will allow students to know the academic credentials and achievements of the instructors.
I agree with both of you. The more online posting you do in forums with your students the more your presence is felt by the students. The less impersonal it feels coming from an online course. They will develop more of a closer relationshiop with you and more of that "pat on the back feeling." Good way of looking at e-learning.
Hi Rhonda,
You are right it is all up to the instructor to make this "presence." Instructors who make frequent postings and engage in student conversations are the ones who develop these relationships in the classroom.
