Gaining Respect
Be sensitive to concerns learners express and questions they raise, and be consistent in the manner in which you provide timely feedback. This help you gain your students respect.
I agree that consistency is a big plus. I also think that students will fill more energized when they are aware that their instructor has respectable academic credentials and excellent professional experience. However, the instructor should avoid flaunt his/her credentials in a manner that suggests pomposity. Respect begets respect. Trying to belittle students will not garner any respect from the students.
