I would attempt to explain to the learner what the objective of the assignment is. I would also suggest that the learner offer alternative or more appropriate questions. Learning is a collborative effort by the student, the institution and the instructor. The student should feel like they are gaining from participation and from the program.
Hi Tim, one of the ways we overcome this is a roadmap that shows the alignment of all of the course activities to the goals and objectives of the course. In addition, by helping learners understand the relevance of the activities to real world practice they are less likely to challenge the activities. Tina
I would take the time to explain how it relates to the course and the content we are studying. It sounds to me like he has a valid question and if the assignment doesn't clearly coorelate to the coursework, then a revision of the assignment(s) may be necessary.
