Robert,
Your analysis of the trend for online is spot on. The f2f classroom is not improving nearly as fast due to technology being leveraged in as many new ways as are occurring in the virtual classroom. Very good point - thanks for your contribution.

Initially, it may appear that online teaching is more difficult than traditional teaching, but having taught in both environments, I would say it is about equal. There are certainly different challenges in the online environment, but each of these are being more and more easier to address due to advancing technology.
In the beginning of an online course, there is certainly more organizational work, but it pays off if you are assigned the same course in the future.
So, I basically think with all the advancing technologies for the online environment that in a lot of respects it is easier in the online environment than in the traditional FTF classroom.
Thanks, Phillip.
The flexibility and array of tools can make many aspects of online teaching very enjoyable. Good insights - thanks.

Krystal,
Very good point. Many instructors have indicated they feel that way. Other instructors focus on the flexibility and 'weave' it into their life style. This way they may spend 40 hours per week, but not in large chunks of time. For them this is sometimes seen as being easier. A lot probably depends on individual circumstances and perspectives.

Well, I would think the online class arena should not be that difficult. We must realize that we can use technology to our advantage. Rather it be creating a video tutorial of the lesson and putting it up on YouTube or simply going the extra mile to contact this student by email or via phone. It's so many features we can use to get in touch with the students these days. However, this is just my opinion. Once again great job on your post!
I think it's often more difficult because it can feel like you're "on the job" 24 hours a day. Even on the weekends, you have to make sure to check on your class often. When you teach in a traditional environment, there is less expectation for you to be available all the time.
Hi Catherine,
Many distance instructors would agree with you. What are some of the specific "duties" that are most laborious from a distance, for you.
