E-learning management!

My self I see this as a major reason to avoid e-teaching. I would much rather spend my time helping those who really desire it.
Personally I would try to have a one on one and remind them of the rules of conduct and if they choose to deviate from those it's time for them to go.

Not necessarily it is all based on the design of the course. You can't just take a traditional in-person course and stick it online. You really need to examine any courses that is going to go online and determine the most effective tools to use and assignments/activties to build to create the best online course possible. If you use engaing activites in the course and meaningful discussions then students are more motivated to stay on track. It does require the instructor to be more engaged in the course to ensure that the students are completing the work, getting critical feedback quickly, and managing the discussions to keep them on track.

It seems that on line teaching is harder to keep
the students on track.

Lauren,

Online teaching definitely takes more time and effort than traditional classroom teaching. There is always a point once you have done everything you can to help students that you have to back off and let them make the final decision of what they are or are not going to do in the course.
