The activve learning is a "win-win" learning method that the learners could engage in to make learning more interesting. Be placing the responsibility of learning on the students, they feel more invested in the process and are more motivated to learn. The educator's main purpose is to facilitate and guide the students in the process will encourage the students to be more active in the learning process. I find this is a better and more way teaching method to conduct a class.
The more collaborative, cooperative and problem solving learning that can take place, the better students will learn and retain. Active learning can help with student retention and can make learning more student led. With many opportunities to include active learning in an online setting I look forward to all the ways I can engage students even more.
One of my favorite active learning techniques is asking the students to become the teacher. I know first hand that you learn the material better when you teach it to someone else. The way I like to do this is have every student (or small groups of students) become experts on their topic (or assigned chapter from the textbook). Then they are responsible for teaching that concept to the rest of the class. This creates peer learning and a new level of competence on their assigned topic.
I like the collective collaboration used in active learning. This course once again reinstates the different methods of creating an active learning environment.

In this module we reviewed some facets of active Learning, background of the movement, developments in higher education, cooperation instead of competition using collaborative and cooperative learning, creative use in the online environment, and the core elements of active learning. Students must not just memorize, but be able to read, write, discuss, reflect or be engaged in problem solving, engaged in the process of analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating the information, with the aim of achieving improved retention and application of the course material.
i am new to instructing online and it's so different from lecturing in the class room
Active learning put the studet more in charge of their learning rather than the instructor feeding knowledge to be memorized. Students shape their own learning.
Active learning is important for the student in a student based learning approach. This is a difference than old prior ways which it was instructor lecturing at the podium, but it is now in more recent years a promotion of active learning.
Active learning is any learning other than sitting and listening to a lecture.
reading then is active learning .
What I took away from this is, we need to provide opportunities for students to participate. This may be providing the matieral in different varieties so they can understand and feel confident when engaging in discussion post. I also see I must be more involved in the discussion post, to make sure the ball continues rolling and it isn't dropped.
Active learning is a transistion with a focus on students taking responsible for
their learning expereince and the teacher being a supportive participant in this journey.
Online learning is difficult and keeping the attention of the students is sometimes challenging. I intend on incorporating active learning by creating group activities, focusing on reflective tasks and being more of a guide than an instructor.
I learned that online instructors should act as guides, helping their students throughout the full process completing an assignment.
I learned that active learning moves the student from passitive to active learning. Active learning, in my opinion promotes more learning and retention of information in a fun environment
Fun is important in the learning process because some instructors may not believe that having fun while learning is not that very important. I also learned that the three different classifications of active learning are:
1. Collobrative Learning
2. Cooperative Learning
3. Problem-based Learning
I have taken and taught online courses in multiple institutions, and I have had training in active learning techniques, particularly for adult learners in three different institutions.
My take away is how easy it is to fall back into less effective patterns of teaching. So I get to try again.
Online Instructors facilitate active learning in the online course by assisting students in developing their critical thinking skills, encouraging and promoting good communication skills.
Active learning supports teaching outcomes such as critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, and knowledge acquisition for students.
Active learning is important to incorporate and to explain its importance the students in the online classes.
Active learning requires the students are responible for their own learning. Active learning requires instructors to be less rigid and hold on to just one style of teaching, instructors must be more open to learning activities and opportunities to provide students with a more immersive, interdependent, and self-directed experience.
The best thing I have learned in this section, that I wish I experienced, was taking a pause and asking students what they learned in the last 20 minutes of the lecture. This is a great way to see if students are listening, understanding the information, and able to recall what they have learned. Also adding a chat feature to bounce back ideas between learners can really help engage them in the information.
