Using e-mail to develop a connection with a student.

I use e-mails, sent to individual students who may be at risk for various reasons, to develop a one-on-one relationship with the student.

Shirley,

That is true as well. I don't use the phone as much as others. Thanks for bringing this up.

Take care.

Dr. Crews,
I totally agree with you that a phone call is more individualized for the students. However, sometimes it can be difficult to contact them due to incorrect numbers or disconnected numbers.

Joseph,

Several instructors in these forums have noted they find the phone conversation to be more individualized and helpful. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

While I find email allows me to reach the largest number of students at one time, the ability to conduct online and telephone conversations are more satisfactory to me as as instructor and from the feedback that I receive, are more valuable and personal for the student.

james,

Great number! That's so workable. I have up to 400 sometimes so I alter how I communicate with students. That's why I asked. Thanks!

Class size ranges from 16 to 20 students.

james,

That one-on-one contact can help develop that relationship. Are your classes very big? Just wondering how many students you usually have in a class.

Thanks!
