When clear expectations and consequences for not meeting expectations are spelled out in the syllabus, students succeed better. It is also crucial the instructor rules by example, when the teacher follows the rules enforcing the rules is easier.

Foundation is key in all areas. We need a good language foundation to understand things, a good foundation in managing our time, etc. Nice job.
I totally agree. A strong foundation is the best thing in all areas of life. I have found that building and putting a lot of work into something at the beginning makes things easier in the end. This holds up to an online course and making a good syllabus with expectations. It stops must of the problems before they even begin.
