Question

What strategies do you have to help with baby boomers who do not have any technical skils in an online environment ????

Nicole and Clovis,

You have good strategies. I like that you are sharing and helping each other and others in the class. Thanks!

Clovis,

I offer the following strategies for teaching technical skills in an online environment:

1. Providing video tutorials

2. Providing access to online help and reference tools

3. Creating exercises that require them to use certain online resources that would acquaint them with required technical skills (e.g., scavenger hunts)

These are just a couple strategies that might prove useful.

James,

Helping students be open-minded is excellent. What strategies do you use?

The biggest strategy, in my opinion, is to encourage baby boomers to be open-minded to the technology. This will ease the learning curve they'll encounter.

Clovis,

Provide that troubleshooting guide. Record short videos using Jing or other software to show and tell student how to do things. Call them to put them at ease and walk them through some technology issue. Just a few suggestions.
