What comes after generation Y?
It looks like the timeframe for generation Y ends around 1998, so what is the next generation? It is generation Z? How are they different or similar to previous generations?
Darlene,
They probably have labels for people not born yet. Ha! Just kidding.
Generation Z? Really? I did not know we had a label yet for these newbies! They are only 14 years of age, at the most, so they still have a few years to go before they enter the college level courses. After reading about Gen Y, and being so self-absorbed, what are we creating with Gen Z? Should we be scared? Or have the tables turned and it is a generation that is thoughtful, kind, and looking after their fellow humans?
Richard,
Definitely. I'm at the "lower end" (if you will) of the Baby Boomers and I take on some of those aspects as well as some Gen X attributes. We are all unique and have a variety of personality traits. Thanks!
thanks for clarifying. Suppose for some who are on one end of the spectrum or the other, it is possible to reflect more than one gen.
Dania,
I've heard them called different things, but here's a couple interpretation:
2000/2001-Present - New Silent Generation or Generation Z
1980-2000 - Millennials or Generation Y
1965-1979 - Generation X
1946-1964 - Baby Boom
1925-1945 - Silent Generation
1900-1924 - G.I. Generation
and
Lost Generation (1883-1900): Those who fought in World War I
Greatest Generation, also known as the G.I. Generation (1901-1924): Those who fought in World War II.
Silent Generation, also known as the "Lucky Few" and Traditionalists (1925-1942): Those who fought the Korean War and many during the Vietnam War.
Baby Boomers, generation born following World War II (1943-early 1960s): Time noted with increase in birth rates - hence "Baby Boomer"
Generation X, Gen X, born after the Western Post–World War II baby boom (early 1960s-early 1980s)
"Millennials", Millennial Generation or "Generation Y" (early 1980s-early 2000s
Generation Z is one name used for the cohort of people born after Millennials. No agreement on exact dates (mid or late 1990s-present day)
Hope this is helpful.
