Why are rubric important to use
Why are rubrics important to use?
1) It shows students a guideline on what is expected of them.
2) It is transparent when you grade student's work
3) It helps complete the learning process for students as they know what they need to improve on their performance.
Walt,
Absolutely - anything that helps us, as instructors, grade and helps the students more clearly understand the expectations, the better. Keep trying!
Thanks!
Good points on how it helps the students, but it also helps me when grading. It keeps me focused on whether the ogjectives are being met and I believe it also keeps me from playing favorites. When possible I try to use the rubric to grade an assignment without knowing before hand which student submitted the work. This keeps me from unconsciously (or consciously) being biased by my personal opnion about the student. Not always easy or possible to do, but I try.
Danielle,
Great. Glad you.see the importance and how they are beneficial to the instructor and students. Thanks.
I have recently began to appreciate the use and importance of rubrics. I find that students appear to question the reasons for their grades less, and appear to understand that they need to improve.
Monica,
Right. Standardization for the students and the assessment by the instructor. This is a good term to use when describing rubrics. Thanks for your input.
Rubric also add to the standardization of the course. That is if I am able to ensure each learner understands what is expected there is an increase in the reliability of the course objectives.
Rolando and Roberto,
Thanks for continuing the conversation about how rubrics help all involved - students and instructors.
Concur Roberto, if I may add to your comments It assist me in standardizing grading assignments as well there are no surprises to students… Rolando
