Accessible Hardware

What are devices such as touchscreens, pointers and joysticks called?

I think that the generic term for touch screens, points, and joysticks are input devices. I also that that the term "input enablers" would also be an accurate description.

Michael,

It has gotten better throughout the years!

Renee Shaffer

These means are called assistive technological/technology devices or as a colleague put it an "input" enabler. I personally like Dragon Speak as it is easy to use but does have complications truly capturing everything as stated but the software had gotten better over the years. Though not exactly the same as a joystick or magnifier; however, it allows expansion and accessibility where there is none.

Devices such as touchscreens, pointers and joysticks are commonly referred to as input interface devices.

Michael,

Oh, I bet that you are busy nowadays with the growth in gaming and animation in higher education!
Renee Shaffer

As a former designer of video games, and now an instructor for gaming and animation, we have many names for these devices, but primarily they are called "input enablers".

Hello Renee,

These are examples of alternative input devices.

They can be useful for people with loss of dexterity or hand function. Other examples include keyboards with large keys or special mouses.

Best wishes,

Richard,

Assistive hardware devices

It's amazing to see how new technologies like Google Glasses are even starting to be used as part of this category.

Assistive hardware devices.
Excited to see how these technologies will continue to evolve as tech becomes cheaper and more innovative. Exciting times to be working in the business.

These devices are examples of assistive technology that can increase, maintain,or improve the functional capabilities of students with disabilities.

Assistive hardware devices

This is a wonderful idea using the assistive technology tools to help the students with their education and then allowing them to purchase them afterwards. I am sure the school can probably purchase these devices in bulk, making the cost cheaper for them and resell to the students at even lower price

These are all examples of input devices. They can also be used creatively in adaptive strategies.

Assistive Technology

They are hardware examples of Assistive technology

They are all components of assistive technologies!
Other examples include trackballs, sip and puff systems and wands and sticks!
