I create my own according to each class I teach. A general outline is the best format to begin and then I refine as necessary

I haven't ever used online resources to create a rubric. I am going to start now that I have taken this course and see there are many out there. I usually have just used rubrics I have had and then modify them to fit the need of the class I am teaching now.

Melissa,

Good point. We don't have to reinvent the wheel for sure if they are provided. I find many times that I do tweak these as well though. Thanks!

Dr. Tena B. Crews

I often look into the resources publishers offer to see if there are any rubrics associated with assignments that are linked to the text. Sometimes publishers offer specific rubrics, and more often than not they offer general rubrics. It could be that because I teach writing courses it is easier for publishers to offer such resources compared to other disciplines. Whatever the case, it is a place to look! ~Melissa

Jeannie,

It's always good to see what's out there. I typically have to tweak what I fine, but don't have to start from scratch. I have even found rubrics on Pinterest.

I have never used an online source for creating my rubrics. To be honest, I had never thought of that. However, I will definitely google rubrics and see if I can improve my current rubrics. I also like to see what other rubric are created and to find a rubric that will provide effective student feedback yet also make it time efficient for me.

Kathy,

We keep searching and we keep learning. We are in a lifelong learning business. Thanks.

Christen,

The kicker many times is that when we find rubrics that are already made, we typically need to tweak them. So, when you begin to generate your own, you can save them and tweak them as you need to. Thanks.

I never even thought of using an online site. I clicked the 2 links in the last section and look forward to learning more. I also look forward what I find when I google my certain areas for my profession. Thank you.

I have used rubrics that I found searching through Google, but I have never used a generator. I may try that now.

Michelle,

Do you mean rubric template and not resume template? We can find many online and them tweak them to meet our needs. Thanks!

I'll usually google 'best resume template' resume template 'xxx course' and will look up webinars/resources that might touch different topics/trends to learners today.

I look up how to motivate my students to review the rubric before they do the assignment and the importance of getting students to review my feedback - if students don't review the feedback than they won't learn and grow - which could make assignments in the future harder to do and be successful at.

Erin,

Pinterest has everything! :-] It's a great resource to connect us to other locations on the Web. Thanks for bringing that resource to light.
Nice job.

Oddly enough Pinterest. I know it sounds like a stretch but you get a barrage of images of rubrics at all different stages. There is a great sense of how it is you develop a rubric and what type of criteria you can go into. And since all of the images are linked with websites, you can go directly to the website that produced the image.

Jacqueline,

It's good to look at other rubrics as we can get ideas for criteria and many other items involved in the rubric. Thanks!

I google online rubrics for various courses then create my own using a combination of the rubrics I see. I create my own specific to the needs of my students and the competencies I need to cover for accreditation purposes. I like to look at online rubrics to get an idea of how they are set up and just for basic structure purposes.

Scott,

The key is that you understand the rubrics have to be shaped to fit exactly what is needed. Rubrics are not a one size fits all too, but they must be crafted carefully. Thanks!

I am fortunate in that I have taught in various schools and colleges that have used rubrics. As a result, I have a plethora of rubrics that can be formatted and shaped to fit exactly what is needed. Rather than searching the Internet for full rubrics, I often look for specific items that I can include in my rubrics.

I often look at college syllabi for rubrics in my subjects, again not necessarily for the full rubric, but to see what percentage of a project a particular professor might use for spelling or grammar or length issues. I am interested in constantly updating my rubrics so as to be as fair as I can to students.

Vicki,

Any time I use a rubric generator, no matter what it is, I tweak the rubric and criteria and scale. But, it's still easier than starting from "scratch." Thanks!

I use a rubric generator to create rubrics for assignments, but the assignment text mentions a site called "Rubistar" for k-12 education, and "Rcampus Rubric Gallery" which is a list of rubrics that can be accessed according to grade level, subject and type (CEE, 2014).

I do find that the generator I use is fairly effecive from assignment to assignment and that Excel gives you freedom to customize scale according to criteria.
