incorrect assumptions...

When giving feedback I think you shouldnt go in assuming anything. Look at facts. Did your boss not do something correct. Did the team you manage not turn in the report on time. All facts. If I assume that the guy whose eyes are always closed at the computer terminal isnt going to finish his report and I initiate a feedback session before the I can see if its true,am I wasting my time?

Assuming is likely to always create problems, thats why I think the section of this couse on doing your homework before providing feedback is so important. You always need to have as much facts as possible before begining.

I agree, Juan. Knowing the facts and preparing before addressing an employee is essential to a productive feedback session. I prepare myself to state the facts and to keep opinion out of the feedback session. I don't always find it easy and I am still perfecting my delivery. I like the tools that are part of this course. I am going to start using them in my preparation when delivering and receiving feedback.
