Providing Feedback

I believe as an instructor the best thing I can do is provide feedback for my students. I do this in many ways I talk to them about study habits and if they do poorly on an assignment; I ask what they did to study and coach them on better preparation next time. I believe it is also hard to do correctly which is why I enjoyed this information, I can use it to enhance what I have already been doing. My question is does it ever get any easier to deliver feedback?

Although it may be difficult in some situations when you have to give negative feedback, I feel it’s important to emphasize how to perform correctly and not focus just on what was done incorrect.

Colin is definitely right.I found its more comfortable for learners to discuss how they need to take feedback and its purpose before I dole it out.

Thanks for the advice I will use it, and I am also a believer that we all make mistakes and I am ok with it...because I too make them!
Best regards!

Easier? I think it does get a little easier over time.
I prefer to be non-confrontational whenever possible, which made feedback a little difficult when I first started. I would, however, state that students need to be aware of what's acceptable and what is not.
I lay out the course requirements on day one and also tell them that I hate surprises, and that there should be none in my class. If the student performs a task incorrectly and loses points on it I let them know the next day. Some instructors do not let students know until the last day.
We all make mistakes. The trick is to only make them once and learn from them.
If a student loses points on a project, or is behaving in a way that requires correction (feedback/advising) then it is our job to bring it to their attention. If we let them continue without correction then we are doing them a disservice.
