My workplace has recently gone through several changes, new business model, new supervisors, line staff transfers, major pushes to do more with less, going paperless, etc. Things that I have done to reduce stress are writing down my activities, assignments, etc. a week at a time and then prioritizing them. The other things I've done, is sitting back and looking at what I do and don't have control over and then focusing my energy on the things that I can control.
elizabeth,
It is a proven that most of our employees do not give 100%. It takes a great leader to show people how much potential they have and how much they can accomplish

It great you understand the importance to allow a student to step back and reflect in a calmer situation. When we understand the precedent behavior before the actual unacceptable behavior we can curb future problems. By keeping stress levels at a minimum with high anxiety students you can much faster progress with their achievment.

I have let a student leave a little early for break to calm down a little, he was very frustrated with a project he did not understand. After break he came up to me and we went over what the problem was. He was alot more open minded about what I was trying to tel him.
Teresa,
Both are great techniques. I am sure you have the attitude to make it work. Having positive self talk with optimism is the key.

Short walks on breaks and breathing exercises are my best mini centering tools in the day. I encourage students to do them as well, so we all
function effectively.
