Tasha,

We all need a break and eating at your desk is not the best health wise or stress wise. Your direction to your employees is a considerate one.

Dr. Gary Carlson

I like to handle stress in many ways. I create an environment in my office that I call the 'oasis'. I have floor lights on all the time and music playing. If I see coworkers stressing out about stuff I usually bring them in to my office and distract them with positive thoughts. Then when they have the opportunity to relax a little we will talk through the situation. I am a very positive thinker...I like to take any situation and put the positive spin on things. Attitude is choice and I choose to not let stress get the best of me!

I have always encouraged others not to eat at their workspaces if they can help it. I know alot of us like to multitask, but for our health and proper digestion it is not the best idea.

Timothy,

Getting one's attention can change good behavior into better and bad behavior in to good. People don't care what you know until they know that you care.

Dr. Gary Carlson

I always talk to my peers that I most closely identify with to evaluate whether I am productively worrying or have undo stress. In turn I do the same for my friends. It's amazing how easy it is to notice and help someone else deal with their stress and how difficult it is to address my own.

I have also had good results addressing deviant students in class by immediately interacting with them in class, making them participate reduces the student's deviant behavior and my stress.

Tomoko,

Great message from you. I have always used an old saying the is "People don't care what you know until they know that you care." You definitely know how to lead and care.

Dr. Gary Carlson

When its final time, I always have a talk with my students encouraging them to do the best they can in the final but at the same time don't stress about it. We are humans and we make mistakes. This final is not a 100% definition of who and what you are. Do study and don't slack off but find a middle where you are studying and feel good overall as well.

MOHAMMED ARIF,
When the classroom is one with excitement and full of positive anticipation is a pathway for success. Students have met with failure before when they feel uncertain about their capability.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Sandra,
First I would like to commend you on your energy to complete all the task you have listed. It takes a very good attitude and approach to maintain a manageable stress level with all your responsibility. The key is to keep this balance of relaxation and with mental activity, good health practices, recreation and spiritual rejuvenation.

Dr. Gary Carlson

One of the things that I have always practiced to handle workplace stress is to tell onself that our job is to try do our best results will reflect that dont worry about the results as you dont control them. Do whats in your power and dont worry about whats not under your control.

when I announce a exam to my stduents some react by saying I am not going to take that exam I will fail. I tell them why fail before trying. Your job is to try and results are not under your control so why worry about whats not under your control.

Life, as it is today, forces many of us to constantly be on the go. It seems there is little time for relaxation. I try not to over-commit myself and avoid scheduling too many things to do in one day. I make it a point to find time to relax in between working full and part-time jobs, taking care of my house, driving elderly relatives for scheduled appointments and events, etc., etc. I relax by walking, reading a good book or watching a movie. Another way is spending social time with friends and family, sometimes having dinner or playing cards and board games together.
Being flexible is an important part of who I am in keeping stress to a minimum. I prioritize and organize my responsibilities both at work and outside of work with the realization that I have to be flexible because things can change daily.
I do my best to communicate in an optimistic way, by managing my own emotions and feelings in a positive manner toward others and to be socially aware of and understand other people’s feelings keeping open lines of communication. I also value humor providing the laugh is not at someone else’s expense.

Eileen ,
Good for you! Your balance makes a difference. When we attend to our physical health, recreation, mental pleasure activity and spiritual rejuvenation completes a peaceful existences.

Dr. Gary Carlson

As someone who has suffered from anxiety due to stress my entire adult life, I've had to learn how to self manage my stress and anxiety levels. Five years ago, I made lifestyle changes in my diet, my social life, and my work/life balance. Although I love sugar and caffeine, I have made an effort to reduce my intake. I used to find myself worrying about work situations when spending time with family and friends. Whereas now when I leave work, I leave work at work and focus on spending quality time with loved ones.

Mohammed,
The more knowledge the better. If you have the time to completely analyze the instance or challenge for a better understanding of the correct actions needed you will succeed more than not.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Second Thought. Throughly analysis the situation and make to the point. Then come to conclusion.

Randy,
The body is always in need of some balance. Physical exercise, mental recreation, recreation and spiritual rejuvenation all helps us be a better critical thinker and problem solver.

Dr. Gary Carlson

My first career was 29 yrs in the U.S. Army... I ran and exercised virtually every day. After starting my second career as a public high school administrator, I noticed that many days I felt "flat" (slow, listless, wandering mind, etc). I became convinced that lack of recurring exercise was the issue. So, during the day I started walking around the school track... just one or two laps made all the difference. Sometimes teachers accompanied me during their planning periods... great time think, talk and sort out the challenges facing us!

Sharon,
This idea of anyone can be replace is completely wrong. Everyone that is hired has a worth to the organization or they shouldn't have been hired. People feeling needed and having value makes for a loyal employee.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Shawna,
