I find doing mental stress relief exercises more helpful since physical activity I am very limited in what I can do. Not everyone can do power walking, going to a gym to relieve stress, so alternate methods can also include sitting and doing chair exercises.

Mariann,

Exercise is a great habit to have for reducing stress. It is good to have a balance in your life with recreation, mental activity, exercise. good health habits and spiritual rejuvenation.

Dr. Gary Carlson

I exercise four times a week doing circuit training and Zumba dancing. In work related situations it pays to take walks during lunch breaks and sometimes eating lunch with peers and sometimes alone.\

Rochele,
This is without a doubt a known fact. Along with the sex activity it is also accompanied with great relationships. This is part of a well balanced life. I can see how sex can be of some value to stress relief it is with a relationship that solidifies personal value and needs.

I know some might take this the wrong way but Sex is a great form of excercise and stress relief it is also a very healthy part of a marriage people always shy away from talking about the topic as if it's something bad or taboo... but it's a beautiful thing... any type of cardio that we can add into our daily routine helps... studies have shown we can all benifit from at least 30 minutes a day of walking, dancing, swimming, etc.... so please go have sex.. if you're married. :0)

Christine,

It is a great practice to use exercise as a stress reliever. Keep in mind that balance in your life is necessary. Mental activity, physical exercise, recreation and spiritual rejuvenation all need to be in balance.

Take a brisk walk at lunch. Stretching helps too. I found that joining a gym helped me alot, noit only with releaving stress but feeling better about myself and knowing that I am doing someting good for me!

The best exercises depends on the individual. We all enjoy different exercises. For example; my excercise training consist of strongman strength workouts. I work out four days out the week. This helps me reduce stress and makes my day better.

There are many ways of addressing stress. What works with your selection from the alternatives. If you have found your technique that is great.

I think that the type of exercise that helps greatly varies from person to person. Personally, stop, breathe, reflect do not work for me. I need to be physically be involved in some extreme not mild exercise.

Theresa,
Exercise may be different for each person. Some people walk and some people jog. The key is to know yourself. Do what is right for you.

Move to a quiet place and do deep breathing exercise to clear your mind and reduce your blood pressure.

It depends on how you define "exercises". For me, I find that simple stretching can reduce stress as I visualize it pushing the stress out of my body. It's also something I can do on my lunch break, or even at my desk for as little as 2 minutes. It has that bonus of being a potential "mini"!

There is a time and a place for this to happen. Tactfully a person needs to endure for the moment and then take there escape route for rejuveniation. These moments are often best taken in private and can give thought on who would be best to share the issue with in the future.

Does the majority of your stress happen at work, like it does for me? I find that stress at work can be the hardest to handle because you don't have the same amount of time to destress as you would at home. Gary is right that the best thing to do is step away and come back with a fresh perspective. Extracting yourself tactfully and professionally from the situation can be tricky. It's not exactly polite to just get up and walk away from your boss when he is upsetting you, but just ask for some time to think about the situation. A good boss would not deny this request. If you are on a particularly stressful phonecall, perhaps asking for a callback number and finishing the conversation at a later time would be helpful in diminishing the stress level.

Barbara,
Your best practices are what fits your life style best. Depending on what seems to be areas of relaxation for you. Reading, walking or cardio exercise may work or just doing meditation and relaxation may help. If it is while you are at work it helps to step back sometimes and just get up and walk away from the stressful moment and come back later. A fresh outlook helps to approachsituations.
