Personal Time

In addition to physical exercise, creating personal time to visit movie theater or place of interest to relax and wind down helps to mitigate stress. I have also found listening to music to be therapeutic.

David,
Reading is good for you and many others. But it may not be the best for everyone. We need to search for what keeps our thoughts and minds clear.

David,
We all use our favorites to keep us on track with music, time alone, reading etc. The key is to know what works for you. You or anyone else will be happy when they find that technique that works.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Reading if only a page or two can give you a quick break as well.

music helps take your mind off things, sometimes reading can take you away as well even if only a page or two.

David,

It is valuable to step back once in awhile to gain perspective.

Work life balance is key! You need time to get away. With smart phones and tablets, we are all connected 24 hrs a day to our jobs. Sometimes we just need to not respond and turn them off!

Mignonne,
If you can keep these practices and they work will help you endure the hard times.

I too find that I have to remove my body and my mind from the stressors in my environment. The best way is to go outside, breathe fresh air, watch the birds and listen to soothing music. That revitalizes me and when I go inside, I seem to have more energy, motivation and perseverance.

Sundeep,
These are all good techniques. It is what works for you is the practice to follow. You need to control your surroundings as best you can. Some people in cubicle environments use headphones to block out destractions.

sit quietly many times is not possible when your space at work has been changed 4 times in less than two years and people always know where to find you. Even worse when you get away and people text or call your cell to attend to their needs. Sometimes, I find that I simply walk out of the building. Nothing is more important than prevention of me losing my mind. Hence, i walk in the parking lot, look up at the sky, watch the clouds, listen to a few songs in my car, pace, maybe call someone and talk about something unrelated. Then gather my thoughts, steadily prioritize what I am willing to dive back into and get back to it after 10 minutes.

It is essential to have time to reflect on ideas, issues, concerns or progressive thought without being hampered by distractions. You can do this by allowing yourself this time of contemplation through the solidtude of thought on your own. This practice prepares you to be a better contributor to the topic and keeps you with a clear mind when the discussion begins.

Personal time is one of the most important aspects of stress management for me. It is good to stop, breath, and evaluate the situations you find yourself in, but I often find that easiest to accomplish when I can get away from everyone around me and sit quietly, alone. It allows me to find my center and refocus myself for whatever tasks lie ahead, especially in preparation before the next day.

Shane,
If we can arrange alone time gives us a moment to step back from the stress of the day. This is only good if you can remove yourself from what makes the stress harmful.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Ligia,
Exercise can be a great asset to combating high stress. This relieves us from the daily pressures.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Personal time is necessary even if it means being away from your family for awhile.

I'm most productive when I take abundant time for play. This helps me burn off excess stress and enjoy life more, and my work life is better when I'm happier.

Austin
Raxation is very important. Physical exercise is healthy but we all need down time.
