An independent admission agent vs Director of Admissions

I'd like to offer the following discussion topic: what is more advantageous for an Institution - to use the service of an outside agency or have an internal Director of Admissions.

Yamile,
It depends upon the school. Not all schools have the depth in their organization to sustain both positions.

Patty Aronoff

I think that an Intitution must have both an outside agency and an internal director of Admission. Both have different functions. we not underestimate the importance of the each in the admission process.

Kate,
You bring interesting points to the debate.

Joane,
It will be different for each school. There is no given process for success.

I feel Admissions is like sales but more personable. I believe a DOA will get much further with a future student than an outside agent will. It's like Bentley cars.. They don't advertise because they know they're worth/value. Why would you send out an agent instead of having a DOA, are u doubting your school's worth?

an independent admission agent will bring more business and may cost less at the end

Yes, you are right. Thank you.

Julio,
In most cases, there is always an internal connection.

It depends of the type and size of the institution. At a small institution, an internal director of admissions is enough. Probably, for a huge institution the service of an outside agency is the advisable way.

Rachel,
It would depend upon the school and the market area needs. I would believe that all schools would have a DOA regardless of using an agency.

The Internal Director of Admissions is more advantageous .The Prospective will be exposed to the Institution such all the environments, all the Elements that He or She will be exposed during his or her time of Schooling.
