Transfer of credits
Clarifying incoming and outgoing credits to institution.
Stanley,
Yes! The awarding of credit should not be guaranteed and it goes through an intentisive review at the receiving school. There are no guarantees.
Patty Aronoff
This is definately a hot topic and it is very important the Admission Representative makes it very clear that the acceptance of credits are made solely at the discretion of the Receiving Institution.
Mildred,
Consistency is key to compliance. Well-kept records will keep your school consistent.
Patty Aronoff
I agree that it is a controversial topic. I feel like one thing students do not understand is that every institution's curriculum is different and not all credits are going to transfer.
The best thing is to stay consistent with every tansfer of credit. It is not fair to give credit and transfer a class for one and not the other.
Natalie,
The transfer of credits is a hot topic. Every situation is different and the analysis must be done to compare curriculum and outcomes.
Patty Aronoff
This topic along with accreditation definitely generate the bulk of the questions we receive. It is so confusing to students b/c some times courses aren't transferred simply based on accreditation, other times grade, age of course, number of credits earned per course. We often hear I completed 32 credits why did you only accept 27. They often think of their credits as a single unit versus being made up of many small items.
Juliet,
It rests solely with the receiving institution.
Juliet,
Tranfer of credits is determined by the receiving institution. No one can speak to whether they can transfer other than the receiving institution.
Elizabeth,
Transfer of credits is probably the most controversial part of admissions and probably the most misunderstood.
It is important that a current and potential student have we the right expectation about their ability to transfer credits between instituions. The student must understand that not all credits will transfer in or out. Transfering between institutions may increase the student's cost and time of completion.
