Resource Notebook

I used to work for a school couple of months back and the main resource book we used to call was third part book. This book was all the same information in every admissions representative working there. We had to all have the same regulations in the order that the institution wanted it in. More like a uniformed book. This book contained some of the information that was in the catalog, but also images and descriptions of each individual program which included curriculum, hours, and requirements of each. It also contained per program the print out of the Salary range that we pulled per career from the BLS.gov website highlighting the date it was printed. This book was made to help every representative to represent the program and other features of the school. Last but not least it contained testimonials of the very students graduating from each program. I thought it was an awesome way to show the schools' success.

Danny,
You point is well taken in that we must actively keep ourselves current on the changes in regulations that affect our students and our careers.

At our school, one of the entrance requirements are to have a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider's card (CPR card), but there are only a few that are approved by the the state. Some of the approved cards may change from time to time, and it is our responsibility to notify the student of these changes. Therefore, I too put into practice checking to see what are the approved cards, by checking the state's website on a bi-weekly basis. I set a reminder on my Outlook, so I don't forget.

Veronica,

Agreed! Having the right information where and we need it makes us successful.

Kathleen,

Very good advice! The two go hand-in-hand. The notebooks is only valuable if it is current.

One of the issues I have found with keeping a resource notebook is that we may rely too much on the notebook and not check as often as we should for updates.
I put a reminder on my calendar to check at least once a month for updates.
I also check for updates if an issue or question arrises that needs to be addressed while I am addressing it. That way I know I am using the most accuate updated materials. It has worked for me so far. if I do find an update I make sure I share it with everyone and let them know of the changes. We will also discuss any updates or changes in meetings as well.
