advice
stay focused and take good notes
Larina,
We have such an important role. We are responsible for providing the prospective students the best information that we can. Understanding the programs and all that they have to offer are key ingredients in product knowledge.

We are here to help change people's lives and determine what is the best course for them to complete. It is important we carefully listen to their goals and needs and then clearly explain what programs we have to offer that will be of benefit to them.
Sandra,
Very good advice! We need to be very honest and transparent when speaking with students. When we are not upfront, you're right, it looks like were hiding something.

leslie,
Good words to live by! Taking notes as part of the reaffirmation of learning. Provides an opportunity for reflection and review.

Always be honest with your students. If a student finds out later that you lied to them it can break the trust that you have created with them, not to mention that it can also create serious problems for you and the college for which you are employed. Do not deflect a student's question more that 2 times; if you wanted the student to know some information before providing payment information but they keep asking, tell them. If you continue deflecting it begins to look as though you are hiding something, not that you have a logical order of providing information so it can be thoroughly understood.
