Student Loans

Is anyone using outside source's for financial assistance? Such as finance companies.

Xavier,
Student loans are a personal decision. Providing them options is our job in securing financial responsibility.

Patty Aronoff

If a student wanted to take out a hard money loan from a lender what be your suggestion to them?

Rachael,
The student needs to know all sides of financial aid and the decisions they make will have is based on this.

I have seen a mix of students willing as well as those unwilling, in the past few years. I have found that when students are unwilling to consider students loans as a portion of their funding, it is because they have not yet seen the value of their "investment" in themselves, and often do not understand their future opportunities as they compare to their current life/career situation.

Lissette,
It's an investment in oneself.

Dale,
They should understand all the options in order to make the decision that is best for them.

We ask the student at that time if they want to use a private leaner when he come in

I agree, the chances for a lifetime better income compare to possible minimun wage

Michael,
Paying the debt back after graduation is critical as well as paying during school.

Tyler,
Students need to see the window of opportunity that awaits them upon completion.

Tamara,
It is being a good listener and providing the resources to assist our students with their life decisions.

Student loan money in help going to college that must be paid back after graduation.

I agree Stephany. Many see it as a great chance to go to school when they otherwise couldn't afford it.

By listening to a prospective student, you can almost describe a personality, you can recognize if that person has fears, worries, indecision, confusion, happiness, responsibility, even courage to adhere any adversity that might come in the way in order to achieve the goal. Excellent communication skills are a must when it comes to admissions.

Tamara,
This is a very good example of the power of effective listening. We are empowered to guide the students to educating themselves to make decisions that affect their future.

I Agree, the private lenders have estinct, but we always ask question that can lead us to know if the prospect is a SFW or Youth Program participant, probably he is a VR client or even from veterans affairs, in many cases they work for the county or another company that is willing to help with the cost of tuition in order to retrain their employees, so they can become part of a more prepare workforce.

I have seen students be more open to taking out student loans in the past year due to the economic declince.

If you mean finance companies like SallieMae for private student loans, yes. Not often but yes. In the past 2 years I have seen a significant decrease in the number of private student loan lenders.
