The importance of the catalog

The catalog is like a buyer/reference material for the student to be able to refer to and gain clarity and understand about the school, and the program.

What will happen is the school runs out of catalogs? Do they have to stop enrolling students?

Shelley,

It is very important that all versions are the same. Unfortunately, sometimes this is not the case and can be very confusing.

I agree with your reply. What is our backup plan. Currently we are instructed to email our course catalog to each perspective candidate if a hard copy isn't available.
I like the idea of being able to direct them to our website for an electronic version as well.

Stephanie,

Being able to access the catalog is very important in order to understand the policies of your institution.

Part of our interview process is to show the student how to access the catalog from home. I have noticed that a lot of our students do not take notes while watching our school overview presentation. They are receiving tons of information and it is highly unlikely that they will remember everything they heard. Being able to access the catalog at anytime is important because it contains pretty much everything that the student needs to know to make an educated decision as to whether the school is a good fit for them.

Connie,
The words of wisdom that we should all should abide by. The time you spend is well worth the effort in building the rapport needed for success.

I agree that the information provided should be accurate. It is the institutions obligation to inform students of the total costs of their education. I am the owner and instructor of our school and we sit with each potential student and do a check off list and show them everything that is included in their tuition. We have table copies of the books, and we also show them the equipment that is included.
I want to build trust and integrity. I want my school to have a great reputation and have potential students feel that they have made the right choice in choosing us for their educational needs.

marisely,

Very informative and thought provoking! We are very mindful consumers today. You brought it all home.

It is extremely important to have every little information about the school as well as the information of the courses offered in the school written down clearly in the catalog. Why you ask ?
Well simply because the catalog is one of the first thing students look at to obtain some information on the school and courses and from their they make their decisions. And if there isnt clear information they will feel doubt and discomfort. One very good example is the following. What happens if your in search of a college to attend and enroll yourself into a Medical Coding and Billing course and you have three or four school catalogs in your hands from different colleges and while your reading over them you come across a college that is offering that particular course at its best price. Well you immediately call the school and set up an appoinment.Everything is great you are super excited. Upon arrival at the institute, you directly walk yourself over to registration office to enroll and come to find that the price stated in the catalog isn`t the same price you are being told. This causes, stress and anger due to you maybe took some time off work and lost both your time and money for something that was false.Do you think that person is going to continue witht heir enrollment? Do you think that person is going to give good reputation about that school? Or do you think otherwise?
This is the importance of stating correct and prompt information on the schools catalog.

Adrian,
You should always have a back-up plan. If you run out of professionally printed catalogs you can use photographic copies or electronic copies, no student be without a catalog.

ARMANDO,
Everyone should receive a copy of the catalog. It is required by rule as the catalog along with the enrollment agreement constitute the contract.

Patty Aronoff

Ailyn ,
The catalog is part of the contract with the student. It outlines the rules and policies of te school. Students must receive and read a copy of the catalog.

All students get a school catalog even the ones that are just window shopping. Whenever, we run out of printed catalogs we make copies till we could get the profesional printed catalogs.... Our photo-copier prints in color; so it doesn't look bad..... It just takes a long time to prepare them....

Adrian,
At our school we always provide all of our students with catalogs. In an event that for some reason we don't have any, we always direct them to go to our website and look it up on line. Our school catalog is also accessible through our website. It's very important they know this information as it is mandatory to provide them with it.

they should stop enrolling because the catalog is point of reference. the school catalog play a vital role in establishing a positive communication between the prospective student and the school.

I totally agree. The catalog is the point of reference for all students. If there is a question, they should first refer to the catalog for information.
