Admissions process and compliance
It is important to understand you institutions do's and don't of the admissions process. Their are certain things that you must disclose and certain thing that you cannot say. Are you aware of the compliance requirments for your institutions admissions process?
Jennifer,
It does give you a sense of security. Knowing that your institution is all about compliance and willing to take the steps to maintain it is very reassuring.
Patty Aronoff
I feel fortunate that my institution is very clear about the do's and dont's.
Christopher,
Most admissions staff spend the beginning of their job being mentored and shadowing others.
Patty Aronoff
Christopher,
Excellent! We must not mislead students by promises that cannot be kept.
Patty Aronoff
Seeing others conduct the tours and perform the interview provides a new representative great training and open dialogue with your co-workers to keep everyone accountable and compliant. The standardization of materials presented and printed helps to keep you on track.
There is a presentation that includes items that you should cover with the student such as Transfer of Credits and Accreditation. Pointing out these in your course catalogue.
Languages to avoid and the way you phrase things. You do not guarantee jobs, salary, student success..etc. The prospective student does have to receive admission requirements and must pass the steps to become accepted into a particular program of study.
Isabel,
Absolutely! I am a firm believer in sharing knowledge and experiences. It helps us all do our jobs better.
Patty Aronoff
Not only should admission representatives remain up to date with changes at required time frames, but they should also meet routinely to share experiences and issues identified when dealing with prospective students. This allows them to enhance their knowledge base formally and informally.
Janet,
It's important to know the do's and don'ts of your position. You can quickly fall in the trap of providing misleading information innocently unless you truly know the rules and regulations.
Patty Aronoff
A complete training is provided to all new staff memeber is admissions outlining the do's and don'ts. In addition any changes or updates are informed and communicated accordingly so that the staff is always up to date.
Stephen,
It is always helpful to understand the basis of the regulations and policies. Knowing the reasoning gives the understanding we need to be fully compliant.
Patty Aronoff
Bianca,
This is another reason why we should continually discuss our experiences with oth admissions staff. Sharing experiences and discussing how we respond not only helps us grow but keeps others trained as well.
Patty Aronoff
I have a growing confidence for this institution's own compliance and code of ethics. If I compare the regulations and statues of federal and regional bodies to our own policies, I find ours to be the more stringent rule.
Our Do's and Don'ts are nonnegotiable and pretty hard-line. One thing I’m aware of now is that I can’t alone rely on retention of all of the rules and regulations. My success will depend on my organization of proper documents and procedures so that I can quickly reference them as needed. As for the more obvious Do’s and Don’ts I have found the consistency of explanation behind them to be useful for committing them to memory and upholding their integrity.
