I believe that this information helps me with my profession
I agree. I know that I feel more confident when I do know all the answers that I may be asked from a current, future, or potential student. Having a firm grasp on the familiarity of the school catalog helps me feel more prepared for questions that may arise. It also helps when dealing with sometimes difficult individuals looking for information that they feel like is not "readily available" or when they make claims such as "can't find any information about our school". Having the knowledge that the information requirements are met within the context of the course catalog gives me the "leg" I need to stand on.
