Admissions employee vs Fin Aid Rep
Is an admissions employee responsible for all of the Fin Aid info? or can that be left for the FA office?
Deborah,
The departments should be separate. It is just good business practices to keep them separate so there is no conflict.

I have only worked at school where FA and Admissions are completely kept separate and for good reason. The Department of Education requires it to be kept separate. I believe the student may also feel more comfortable disclosing their personal financial information to someone that is in that department. It allows us to conduct the interview with out pressure of explaining all there is to know about FA. There is literature from the Department of Education that states what admissions can say. It is just the common questions on the page of the FAFSA. Its based on income and family size is all I can say.
Glenda,
Understanding financial aid as an admissions rep is important to a small level, however, it can be a precarious road in which statements are made where students go to financial aid for the vital source.

While I agree that these are two completely different and seperate roles, it is important to have a general working knowledge of financial aid. Overall any real questions concerning financial aid should be answered by a financial aid rep or agent.
Paula,
The most common best practice is that financial aid is totally separate from admissions. Financial aid is a very complex process which needs to be conducted by a subject matter expert.
