STUDENT SERVICES
I THINK THAT WE NEED TO BE PREPARE IN STUDENT SERVICES , IT IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN THE PROSPECTIVE STUDENT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IN WHAT FIELD THEY CAN WORK, RECEVIED ORIENTATION ABOUT ACADEMY ASSISTANCE , PLACEMENT AND GRADUATION
A.R.,
Going to school is sometimes overwhelming. Having student services available can save a student's academic life.
Patty Aronoff
I think student services very essential for our prospective students and it's very important to highlight the features and benefits on your tour.
Paola,
Drops are essentially losses for the school. We try to make sure that the student is successful and that starts with admissions and realistic presentations.
Too many times I have witnessed Admissions reps embelish the institute and what it can provide post graduation- Honesty and under promising works. the prospects will benefit and as the school over delivers it keeps the student motivated and helps avaoid a potential "drop".
Mark,
This is a way to connect your prospective student to Career Services. It is an integral part of becoming placed.
Our Admissions and Career Services team meet on a weekly basis to discuss placement percentages by program. From an Admissions viewpoint, it's good to know what fields are experiencing growth and have good placement opportunities. Our students are interested in going to school to receive the career training that will help them prosper. If we know what fields are 'hot' and that program meets the student's interest, we can have a great conversation about future employment options.
I absolutely agree with your post, so many times student services/placement assistance is an after thought on student tours and mindset of the prospective student. It is necessary for the student to be aware of the student services department and how it breaks down the various services that are offered and how placement assistance works and what the job market looks like for recent graduates. At our campus our career services keeps admissions updated with alumni spotlights, salary information and careers students can go into after graduating.
Arthur,
It takes the entire school to develop a graduate! Great post...
Mark, I totally agree with you! Without a Student Service Department the retention rate would not even be in question. Students are looking for that assistance from knowledgeable representatives that will inform students of the challenges they will face when they graudate, but also inform the student that Student Services are there to ensure the student's prepareness when they are ready to face the job world.
Jean,
The job market today is a tough one to break into. Employers want new employees to hit the ground running. This is where the reputation of the school and the graduates it produces is so valuable.
Student Services should play a key role of helping and preparing our students to understand the job market. It does not matter where you graduate, if your resume is not marketable, and no company will call you for a job an interview.
Some private schools and community colleges dont prepare our students for the job market because of lack of skills and hands- on training. Dont' expect to study a bunch of academic courses will help you get a job.Company needs to kwow how can you increase productivity, and it has no time to train our graduate students.
I agree w/ what Mark said "Under promising and over delivering" always leads to an effective outcome in life.
Cynthia,
Those departments are integral to the student experience. Having the initial contact brings the students in contact with the departments from the beginning. Great idea!
Including a visit to Student Services and Career Services, is a standard procedure at our institute while touring our campus. I have found that the prospective students become that much more confident and excited after that part of the process.
Shaun,
Student Services are there for the student from beginning to end. They assist students so they can be successful in your school.
it is very important to know what your putting students into that is why we discole this information to them
Raymond,
Excellent point! All departments within the school need to work together and provide a solid service to the students.
Deserie,
Student services are extremely important to our students. They are there to assist from beginning to end.
I agree with Robinson. Not having a well established career services department (especially at a career training school) could really damage the relationship with the students coming in, current students, and the community. Building that solid foundation up front and then maintaining it throught out is key to success for all parties involved.
