High Schools are great leads!
I think a great tool for generating new leads is speaking to CAP advisor at high schools and setting up for students to ask information.
Erin,
You never know when it will click. Lots of times the attention span is short-lived but if you planted the seed it will continue to grow.

It is a great lead source if the student is actually interested. We get a lot of students calling in and their information has been submitted by a guidance counselor or a presentation that was done at the school. They are not interested and they are sometimes hard to talk to.
you are correct but you do have to connect with them they can be picky at times
Yuleika,
..and they respect each other's opinions.
CAP advisors are a great resource. Working with High School students is a fantastic way to get local leads and often come with referrals because students talk to their friends.
Becky,
So cool....you have developed a great connection.
Fernando,
True...you must target both the student and the parents!
They are great! I no longer visit them as a whole. I have relationships with a ton of guidance counselors and I set up "roundtable" events... This is where I make an appointment to go to their school for about an hour, hour and a half...the counselor has made announcements of my arrival for two weeks and the ones interested sign up to be at my roundtable... Its serious, its narrowed, and you aren't wasting your time.
High School students are great leads if you can make a genuine connection with them. They will most likely have other friends that will want to join them in the decision to attend your school. Not to mention that when they come to interview, inviting them and their parents or guardians gives you an oppertunity to target the parents aswell.
I have always believed that H.S. students are the ones that we can target as the best leads and get them interested in the career as soon as possible. If it takes, and they are set on that one career and can make a plan for their future financial situation as well as where they are going to go for their education.
Jesse,
High schools are often difficult markets. Students have so many options that they are bombarded with decisions.
i have been to a couple of high schools to try and recuit them. however, thus far i have not seen much success. i work for an online program, so many of our students are adults, younger kids dont seem to thrilled about attending online. However, with the economy the way it is today, sometimes there is no other option than online or CC because they are so cost efficient.
Sirena,
The parents can be a win-win in the process. Keeping them informed is important but remember FERPA releases when the student is an adult.
High schools are excellent leads for the Fall Term. During the year the admissions teams set up private high school college fairs where we can generate leads and call the student and parents out to our Open House or private tours so they can see what we can offer their children.
Vera,
Thank you for your post! Great idea.
