Career services placement?

Are career services required after graduation to place students in jobs related to their field or can they place student in any job?

Erin,
Schools cannot guarantee placement, they can only provide placement services as required by rule.

Patty Aronoff

Our school tried to assist students in getting position in their field. We do not place anyone at all. We are very upfront that there are many factors that go into getting a position, but that we give all the tools and skills to make that happen.

Helmi,
Career Services makes it happen. They should be an integral part of the student experinc from day one. The better they get to know the student, the better they are able to assist them with placement.

I agree. These students are ready to go into thier new careers and are excited. They really want to practice what they learned in a filed which they chose and want to work in so it's Career Services job to give every effort in assisting students on to thier new careers.

Greg,
The Commission requires that placement services are made available to students. The extent of those services are determined by the institution.

Some institutions assist in career placement where there are institutions that do not. It does not make institutions that do not provided career placement any less valuable to the student. Many students currnetly have employment or careers and are looking to enhance their education for advancement purposes only. We must continue to advise each student as to their needs and not always their wants.

Jeanne-Marie,
The philosophy is constant preparation. Professionalism is key today to selling oneself.

It is also important to assist graduates with their resumes, letters, dress code, etc for interviews. Many candidates have the degree and/or diploma but lack a good personal presentation. The placement departments need to assist in this area as well.

Georges,
Agreed! It is good business besides placement is an indicator of how your school operates.

Heather,
Related to their field.

Daniela,
This is an important role for our schools. To provide continued career services will pay off!

Udo,
This is very true. Career Services has a job to do!

Heather,
In order for it to count as a true placement, it must be in a job related to their diploma or degree.

Ursule,
Thank you for the resource!

Faith,
That is wonderful! Students will have a full team working on their behalf.

Absolutly. At our instituiton we have 3 career services specialist that are constantly contacting the new graduates and providing weekly email job leads, and follow up on interviews. They are are asking post graduates to stay in contact with our career department as freqiently as they can

At Suncoast Worforce, they give you an assesment calling, "Carer Scope." This helps them to determine which field is most appropriate for you and to give you more orientation. I can guaratee you that it is really good!

Career services are an ideal way to stay engaged with the students. We are at time now when it's alot harder to get employed by a company that is looking for speciific qualifications etc.

In our school fortunatly our job placement level is at an 85% from past alumni.

Not only do we train them but the ines that are interested come put of here knowing that they can always come back to us if they want a job.

Not just a job but a job in their field.:)_

i feel the same way, in this market employment is very difficult to find. The new graduates need all the help to put them quickly in their perspective fields of study
