Advertising and Marketing

Does every institution need a Marketing Plan?
Does anyone has experience in this topic that might help me?

MARISELA,
Marketing is an importsnt aspect of a viable business. Depending upon the strategies used, marketing can be expensive.

Marketing is a very important part of "getting" the word out about what type of school you have and what are the programs being offered that support the local population.

Daniel,
Absolutely! Promote your school through local high schools. Set up booths at job fairs. Getting the word out in the community is essential.

I work for a beauty school and the majority of our students are indigent and a lot of them are ATB students. My question is that after the 1st of July we can no longer accept students without High School Diplomas or GED's for title IV funding, should we change our marketing approach to draw in prospective students with High School Diplomas? And If so how?

nuvia,

Good research on your target market. Who are you trying to capture in your marketing efforts? Where do they to and what do they do?

Dear Patty,

Besides tracking where leads come from, what other research/method would you recommend for making the marketing dollars pay off?

Jackie,
Advertising is so expensive. Extensive research pshould be done to make sure you a reaching your target audience and making those dollars pay off.

Our institution does utilize the feedback of their admissions department to help with marketing and to have a better understanding of the students.... however only on a limited basis, i think it should be much more frequent to fill in the gaps, stop wasting marketing dollars!

Denise,
Branding and reputation are part of any marketing plan. Develop your brand!

kim,
Agreed! Marketing comes in many forms and we need to focus on what is best for our particular school.

You definitely want to have an idea of what you what to convey, who is your target audience and what you want to project and attract. This will be your marketing plan.

It is crucial that you know exactly how you want to represent the business because this will be the first thing people see about your business.

Every institution may not need a marketing plan but envery institution should probably use one, in my opinion. It serves the dual purpose of attracting the right prospective student for the school and helping the undecided student learn more about that particular institution, so that he or she can make the best educational decision for themselves.

Natalie,
Branding is the element that evokes all emotions from a prospective student and is built through the institution and students.

Brendan,

Marketing is your connectivity link. While their are many forms of marketing strategies, finding the right right marketing mix is key.

Mark,
Advisory boards or program advisory councils ars your link to future employment for your graduates. Involve them in campus activities and keep your school's name alive.

I would add that even if your school relies heavily on PDL's or seemingly minimal advertising a formal marketing plan is the best way to stay compliant, keep track of all efforts and the communication used in those efforts. We devote an entire section of our internal site to log any and all efforts. It also helps to stay consistent in your messaging and branding.

Marketing is crucial to every business, most importantly, every organization must maintain strong ethics when developing marketing materials and strategies.

Marketing is a very important part of "getting" the word out about what type of school you have and what are the programs being offered that support the local population. Advisory Boards can help in this area as they too are the "sounding boards" of what is happening in your locale. The can spread the word about your need for leads through their channels and it can spread like wild fire both good and not so good. The key element is to get as much information out to the coummuinity as possible; under promises and then over deliever!

Claudia,

Marketing is determinate upon the target market of your particular school. There are some schools that do not have a marketing plan per se, but rely on personally developed leads or local ads.
