Awards/Recognition in the Marketing Process

How much impact do awards or special industry-recognitions have on your ability to market your instiutions programs? Do you feel that it makes an impression upon candidates or isn't really a factor in enrollments?

Elery,
So cool! Recognition is a great marketing tool. It is something we can all grasp.

Tiffany,
Interesting! Students also take testimonials very seriously. Having the feedback of others that have gone before makes a huge impact in marketing. The Internet is often the forum.

The fact the the institution has an award and a ranking of some kind and also any kind of recognition for its programs is most definitely a plus to promote the school. Many of our students see our programs as part of a list of some kind of distinction - for example our Business Program is well known for its "fast track" option, and it was in Business Weekly Magazine and we received many inquiries and students from that recognition. Also, we have a Master in I/O that is recognized nationally and it also helps us to recruit students.

For my field, particular awards and distinctions make a HUGE difference. Candidates sometimes appear to make the decision on where to attend school based solely on these distinctions. There are specific rankings and designations of which nearly everyone entering the field is aware. There are others that are lesser known, but still important to incoming candidates. We, therefore, use many of our awards/distinctions as marketing tools.

Andrea ,
Depends upon the community. Ask yourself if having a seal of approval makes a difference to you.
