Are you in marketing or admissions?

As a new hire, I applied for educational recruiter. When I started I am a representative/marketing. Can I also say that I am in marketing with ITT?

Heidi,
Well stated! We have a very important role in which many people rely on our honesty and integrity.

Bottom line in my opinion we are both because at the end of the day we are selling education (people don't come to school for free at least 90% don't) which is an intangible product so we are also a marketing tool of the school and we get to prospective student through out different resources of marketing like(radio, tv, newspaper, online marketing, word of mouth, etc) and at the same time as an admissions representative we generate and bring business to the institution so it can survive in this competitive market so we are both.

Jacquelyn,
Each department within the school should understand what the adjoining departments do in the student experience. Since we all have a part to play in the growth of the student and timely graduation, we should understand their roles.

Financial aid; but we do this training to keep informed regarding admissions.

Denise,

It brings it all into perspective! We always need to remember we're dealing with people's lives, and their dreams.

I agree that although we are selling a product, the end result is the transformation of the student. In my institution, getting in means the difference between becoming a physician and not becoming a physician. It is important that we take the responsibility of realizing what it means to work with potential physicians who may someday have someone's life in their hands.

Michael,

It really depends upon your organizational structure. In many cases, they must overlap in order to develop marketing strategies that work in your particular area.

Patty Aronoff

Michael,
We are selling a product, but we are also changing people's lives.

Patty Aronoff

This is very true. I also find that some roles overlap; they are not clear cut. How can we avoid overlaping of roles in istitutions?

Through out my business career I have found that regardless of my title, I have always a sales person. One of the things that most people have never given any thought to, is that we are all sales people. Marketing is the natural adjunct for being a succesful sales person. As an admisssion rep, you are still required to go thru the steps of the sale with your prospect(within the regulations promulgated by your school and regulatory commision),but it is also incumbent on you to become a marketing arm to promote the educational experiences at your school and facilitate the martriculation of your propective students.

vanessa,

Many schools have dual roles. It depends upon your particular organization.

Patty Aronoff

i work in admissions but we have someone separate for our marketing am i allowed to work in marketing if i am just in admissions

david,
It depends on what your role is and your company standards as thy conform to statute and rule on titles.
