Obtaining A Job
I frequently find that the students I meet with about the admissions process are highly interested in the likelihood that they will receive a job upon graduation from their specific program. It is critical that I have the utmost knowledge of these statistics and I am better able to know this by studying our previous graduates, talking with current program directors, and working with the career services department at our university.
I completely agree with your comment. After reviewing some of the statements on here I was getting concerned with the fact that it is good to be aware of what the statistics are and what types of jobs individuals can look for upon graduation, but it is imperative to ensure that we are not guaranteeing employment upon graduation. In addition, in the case an individual is wanting statistics, that type of information should come from the professional in that department (Career Services) as it is ever changing data and you do not want to misrepresent or mislead in any way.
Neida,
Excellent! That is another way that you invest in your students and help them promote their future career.

In our University we help the students with free workshops for the Teacher certifications required for the state and our in our experience they pass successfully the certification exam in order to work.
Carol,
What a great suggestion! You're seeing the final outcome of the student that has enrolled, and graduated.

Kirsti,
They do want to make sure that all their efforts and financial investment are going to pay off. Although we cannot provide provide guarantees, we can provide statistics to support the data

I have learned that it is great to visit the job of a graduate student. That will help me become more versed and give crediability about the information I know when I speak to a student that wants to enroll in school and ask me about jobs after graduation. Gathering as much information will help me to become more confident in my role as a representative.
Being new to my position I have noticed that the prospective students I have spoken with are all very interested in knowing what the chances are of getting a job in the golf industry after they graduate. I give them the statistics that are available to me and I tell them about our placement staff that will work with them diligently to help them obtain employment prior to the completion of their degree program.
Andrea,
The students today are far more active as consumers. They want to see your track record and part of that is through placement rates.

Judy,
I like your motto. It transcends what you were doing at your school.

Lu,
Absolutely! That is why they enrolled in school in the first place. They are there to further themselves in the job market.

Erin,
The students do expect to receive a job upon graduation. After all they have invested time and money in advancing their education in hopes of obtaining the job of their dreams.

One of the main questions of prospective students is what is the percentage of job placement obtained at our institution as well as if we assist them in helping them find employment. Obtaining a job is the main goal of every student upon completing a specific program. I have noticed that upon informing them that we do assist them they feel much more at ease that they will not be left in the dark to seek employment on their own but have a guidance system who speaks directly with prospective employers and what they're looking for.
At our campus, we have a Career Service Department that provides placement assistance upon graduation. However, we as well as other colleges and institutions, cannot guarantee finding employment to any student/graduate. Our Career Service Department works really hard and as a team with Admissions. One Dream One Team.
At the end of the day, obtaining a job in the actual field is every students ultimate goal after graduation. At my institution, I go out and talk to several prospective hiring companies and I try to find out what they are looking for in prospective students and what their hiring process really consist of and I try to prepare students base on that knowledge.
